Ch. 10 The Eternal (continued)

Eternity: Ending with a Bang, Not a Whimper

No, no, I am not referring to a Rapture or a Big Crunch or a Big Rip. I took hyperbolic license to refer to my personal big bang because I have returned again to convergence. Remember convergence? Convergence was the means by which I came to détente with the problem of natural evil. Convergence is also the means by which I have come to understand our eternal relationship with God.

Convergence: I touch God when I exist at my deepest level where my quality of being of love has been exposed by chiseling away the fetters and I then live in God's love in mystical devotion and live out God's love as an agent in the creation which I experience in the space and time around me. So do you... and you and you and everyone. When each of us taps into our deepest beings of love and lives in and out God, we all touch the same God and when we all touch the same God we all touch each other. Convergence aids my understanding of the problems inherent in eternity. You and I exist in a space-time reference which allows for only intimations of immortality. We must make good through the reality that is ours. Our eternal God exists in part in a different space-time reference. God exists in our space-time and outside of our space-time. When we touch God, we break through our space-time to outside of our space-time. When we touch God in convergence, we touch eternity.

It is quite likely that Leo Tolstoy better described convergence in War and Peace:

“Love hinders death. Love is life. All, everything that I understand, I understand only because I love. Everything is, everything exists, only because I love. Everything is united by it alone. Love is God, and to die means that I, a particle of love, shall return to the general and eternal source.”

Convergence: at our deepest being and highest mystical reach and most loving agency we all touch God and we all touch that which touches God in each other in eternity. Our eternal existence is contingent on our living in and out God's love during our time of temporal historicity. We become real within our space-time; we become eternal in God's space-time. We determine how much of our life will be lived in convergence with God. We choose whether or not or to what extent we will live in and live out God's love in our unique and specific way in our unique and specific time. Your better you is not exactly the same as my better me but all of our better selves will be loving, good, and fair as we express our love, goodness, and fairness uniquely. We live eternally to the extent that our choices converge with God.
