Ch. 5 The Quest (continued)

New Age/New Thought/New Anything

There were “new” systems of spiritual thought out there that often appealed to folks who were not comfortable with traditional organized religion. I will admit to you than I did not seriously explore any of them even though I had usually found their practitioners to be gentle-spirited people who sought peace and love and I would have characterized myself in a similar fashion. Too much talk of spirit, light, energy, life force, and consciousness quickly started to sound too tinkly and ethereal to me for no good reason because I genuinely liked each of those words. Even though I was a vegetarian, I morphed into a real meat and potatoes gal who wanted a real substantial religious system for the real down-to-earth world around me. I sought something hardier than crystals and positive vibrations. I sought something I could sink my teeth into.
